News site MMA Fighting has listed the nominees for Best Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Fighter of 2021 (World MMA Awards version). The date is December 10.
The top five include 4 UFC representatives and one Bellator representative, which includes Ukrainian Yaroslav Amosov, who continues to hold the welterweight championship belt.
In addition, the nominees include:
- Kamarudin Usman. The American MMA fighter competes from the UFC and is the welterweight champion.
- Brandon Moreno. Mexican MMA fighter from the UFC at flyweight.
- Charles Oliveira. Brazilian MMA fighter from the UFC at lightweight and welterweight.
- Jan Blachowicz. Polish Ruthenian-born MMA fighter, former UFC featherweight champion, holds the KSW title in this weight class.
Female nominees include:
- Mackenzie Dern. An American MMA fighter who practices Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
- Valentina Shevchenko. Kirghiz-Peruvian UFC light-middleweight and light-middleweight MMA fighter, ranks among the UFC’s top-ranked fighters, regardless of the women’s weight class.
- Rose Namayunas. American MMA fighter from the UFC at flyweight.
- UFC’s Manon Fioro. French MMA fighter at flyweight.
- Kayla Harrison of the Professional Fighting League. American judoka, who took Olympic gold in judo.
Hamzat Chimaev, a Chechen fighter from Sweden, could also win the award. He is on the shortlist for the title of the year’s most important discovery. Other contenders for the same award are Amosov, Moneno, Kevin Holland, Jiri Prohazka.
Kamaru Usman was named fighter of the year, Rosa Namajunas was named female fighter of the year and Brandon Moreno was named breakthrough fighter of the year.
